So this is the biggest milestone for us so far; my husband got to feel the baby kick for the first time yesterday. He was so anxious about it because I've been feeling him since 16 weeks and he'll put his hand on my stomach and not get anything. It started out as what felt like little bubbles popping so it was only really felt from the inside anyway; but has transformed over the last few months into outright jabs.
The kicking has just become regular over this last month, since about 22 weeks. The only problem is the baby seems to move at like 9am and then around 1 and again at 4 or 5. He only moves when I'm at work. Maybe if I have a jellybean or something especially sweet in the evening, he'll give a little jab, but it's just a little movement that isn't reoccurring, and half the time my husband isn't home in the evening anyway(music biz, weird schedule.)
It's so exciting that my husband finally got to experience this, like it's more real now. And just last week, while in the bath tub, I noticed my stomach stretch in opposite directions because of little man. I look forward to Adam getting to experience that, so weird and yet completely amazing at the same time. And speaking of amazing, look at this belly!

NO DIABETES
Look at that punum!
I am so excited because I found out today that I passed the glucose screening test and that I don't have to go back for further testing. My glucose number was 94 and I guess they consider normal below 130, so I'm really happy about that. All my hard work has finally paid off.
Not that pregnancy is hard work. It hasn't been for me thus far, in fact I don't even feel pregnant besides the big bulge that was my belly button. I'm doing my best to give this kid a good start by eating decently (7 times a day!!!) and working out 2 hours a day. My low Papp-A doesn't seem to be a problem either. They say it's only a problem when the blood pressure is high and the baby is small. My blood pressure is normal and I'm 24 weeks and 3 days and this kid is measuring 26 weeks 2 days. He's a healthy little dude!
My only issue is anemia, so I get to add yet another supplement to my 7 pill regimen, but F it, no biggie! Hopefully no big issues crop up in the near future.

Glucose Screening Day
Only 109 days to go and I have been anticipating this day for the past month. I mean I have really been sweating over the fact that there is a 10% chance that I could have gestational diabetes. I'm worried mostly because I was overweight when I began my pregnancy and I know this puts me at a higher risk of having gd. I should find out by noon tomorrow, so cross your fingers for me.
From what I've read it seems that regular exercise really helps keep blood sugar in normal ranges and I am so hoping that is true. I exercise very regularly and always have. It's really important to me because of how much I enjoy eating. If I didn't exercise, I'd weigh 300 lbs easy. I ran 4 miles every morning before I got pregnant but scaled back to walking the 4 miles when I started gestating. Within the past week I've added in an afternoon gym session to my regimen. Please let this be enough.
Now I just need to really start eating healthier. This gestational diabetes diet seems like a decent plan to follow. Although I'm noticing on the sample menu 2 they suggest eating sliced turkey. Umm... hello listeria! But, just this second, I decided I am going to try to stick to this plan for the remainder of my pregnancy. Seems like as good a time as any to start being really healthy, uck.
Once again, wish me luck!

On my way
I actually created this blog a few months ago and had great plans to document my first pregnancy week by week. But the truth is I never got around to it. I find myself very distracted these days with fears and worries; which I think is normal at 24 weeks. I'm nearing the end of my second trimester and am really starting to feel pregnant at this point. So it seems like a good time to start documenting my progress.
I was so worried in the earlier weeks because I wasn't plagued by excessive nausea and exhaustion and I just didn't feel very pregnant. I also had such a faint line on my first pregnancy test I sent myself into a tizzy wondering if I was actually pregnant or not. I consulted a bunch of random message boards that basically said "a light pink line could be a sign of an impending miscarriage." In case you are in this boat, I want you to know they are completely WRONG. A light pink line means there is a low hormone level. Maybe you tested too early and need to retest in a few days, or in my case you retest every hour on the hour until that faint line turns bright. And it did. So I made my first doctor's appointment and my worries were assuaged, for the time being.
Now, at 24 weeks, I have seen our little boy in 3D and I have even felt him kick so my stress level has gone down a bit. But this week I get to go in for my gestational diabetes test, which worries the heck outta me. I do exercise every day and eat reasonably well, but I started off this pregnancy overweight and that puts me at a higher risk for GD. A lot of my friends said to stay away from carbs and sugars for the week leading up to my test but my OB quashed that rumor. Apparently, your body will get used to the restricted carbs and when you take the test by drinking a sugary beverage, your body goes into shock. So for the next few days I will exercise and focus on eating well. Let's hope that's enough.
I will let you know how it goes.
